Photograph Notes: K1 takes water at Caernarfon before coupling onto its train. This was the first Garratt articulated steam locomotive, built by Beyer-Peacock in Manchester in 1909 for Tasmanian Railways. See ://festipedia.uk/wiki/K1 . The original WHR terminated at Dinas Junction [[1849450]] and was completed in 1923. The Welsh slate industry was in decline and road transport was taking over, so the line only survived until 1937. The modern WHR uses the old LNWR/LMS standard gauge trackbed between Caernarfon and Dinas.
