Photograph Notes: Carved in wood and painted, and believed to be for Charles II. St Mary's church > ://.uk/photo/2049180 is situated about a mile outside the village. It was built mainly during the 14th century and the font > ://.uk/photo/2049313 dates from that time. It contains a number of memorials and monuments to members of the Bacon family. The tomb > ://.uk/photo/2049273 at the east end of the north aisle was built by Sir Nicolas Bacon, son of The Lord Keeper, for his wife Anne in 1616. The tomb was made by Bernard Janssen, the king's engineer. The effigies of Sir Nicholas and Lady Anne > ://.uk/photo/2049278 in white marble are by Nicholas Stone who later became royal stonemason. The chancel houses a magnificent 18th century monument > ://.uk/photo/2049288 commemorating Lord Chief Justice of England, Sir John Holt, made by Thomas Green of Camberwell. The stained glass in the east window > ://.uk/photo/2049269 was installed in 1853. It is by Farrer of Diss. St Mary's church is in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust in conjunction with the parish.
