Photograph Notes: Middlehope is a major tributary valley of the north side of Weardale; it has much evidence of former mining activity. At this point the Middlehope Burn was bridged by the Rookhope & Middlehope Railway which continued on an embankment on the west side of the burn; the bridge has gone but the retaining walls for the embankment remain on both sides. Mine spoil can also be seen as can the main mine level, the Middlehope Level at the extreme right of the photograph.
