Photo 6x4 West Drayton: Former Staines and West Drayton Railway West Dray c2010

Photograph Notes: Where else could you find a working single track unelectrified railway in a rural location within 25 kilometres of Central London? This is the former Staines and West Drayton Railway which was opened from West Drayton as far as Colnbrook in 1884 and reached [[[1935217]]] a year later. The line closed to passenger traffic in 1965 and the track was lifted south of Colnbrook, but this stub end between West Drayton and Colnbrook has remained in use for various different types of freight movement. This is the view from the Thorney Mill Road bridge. Just around the bend in the distance the railway runs through the centre of the M25/M4 Motorway junction.
