Photograph Notes: The dyke can be seen running from sea level at the right hand side, up the hillside going leftwards near the centre of the picture. A dyke in this context is where hot melted rock has intruded up a crack or fault in the existing older rock, it has then cooled and solidified. The intruded rock is harder in some parts than the existing rock so has weathered less. So the dyke can be seen standing proud of the rock close by.
