Photograph Notes: Looking like an exploded diagram in its present state, this vehicle, built in 1956, will be familiar to railway enthusiasts with memories of the post-war period. Scammell introduced the first version of the 'mechanical horse' in 1933. This particular design dates from 1948. The 'Scarab' was an articulated lorry. Its three-wheeled tractor unit and rear-wheeled trailer were designed for turning in minimal space within railway goods yards
